National projects

The department is currently involved in one project from the NAKI III programme - a programme to support applied research in the field of national and cultural identity for the years 2023 to 2030.

Project name:

Historical mining works in Vysočina as evidence of the development of society and objects of cultural heritage

Grant title:

NAKI III - Programme to support applied research in the field of national and cultural identity for the years 2023 - 2030

Period of implementation:

1 March 2023 - 31 December 2027

Annotation:

The object of the research project is selected historical mining works in Vysočina, including the technological equipment that was functionally connected to them in the past. Several hundreds of historical mining works (adits, shafts, pits, quarries...) and their immediately functionally connected technological facilities (smelters, dewatering facilities...) will be documented in the field. The research of the selected area will be carried out comprehensively, and will include mining works for all types of minerals and from all historical periods. Documentation and research of the objects will be carried out consistently and with an emphasis on methods that have been minimally used or completely neglected. The data obtained will serve as a data base for the project's application outputs: the general objective is to create tools for understanding historical mine workings and resource extraction in general as a fundamental element of the development of society, as important causes and evidence of the development of the landscape, evidence of cultural identity, national specificities and their evolution over time, and their recognition as an important form of historical cultural heritage. The outputs of the project will enable the systemic promotion of tools for the conservation of historic mine workings and the solution of the problem of the use of mine workings as objects of presentation of cultural identity and interpretation of cultural heritage. The main innovative contribution of the project is the multidisciplinary approach with emphasis on the applicability of the results: the combination of traditional and innovative research methods will bring synergistic effects in the creation and use of the outputs and for follow-up research.
