Tourism

Curriculum and its structure

The total study load of the study (180 credits) will be fulfilled by compulsory courses (total 168 credits including languages), compulsory elective courses (total 4 credits) and elective courses (of their choice, at least 8 credits).

Curriculum valid for students who started their studies in the 2016/2017 academic year

Mandatory subjects

European Economic Integration, Cultural Heritage and Tourism, Management, Marketing, Mathematics for CR, Microeconomics, Macroeconomics, Tourism Marketing, Business Economics, Law, Introduction to ICT, Applied Statistics, Tourism 1, Tourism 2, Financial Accounting for Tourism, Geography of Tourism 1, Geography of Tourism 2, Management of Travel Agencies, Management of Accommodation Facilities, Public Finance, Applied Social Psychology, Diploma Seminar, Information and Reservation Technology in Tourism, Destination Management, Sustainable Tourism, CR Practice.

Mandatory electives

From the compulsory elective courses, the student takes an exam, with a choice of four courses:

  • Mathematics 2
  • Guiding Methodology
  • Geographical and navigation systems
  • Population and settlement geography for tourism

The completion of one of these courses will earn the student the required 4 credits.

Electives

The wide range of elective courses allows specialization in particular areas of tourism (travel agencies and agencies, hotels, information centres, state administration, regional authorities) and increases the chances of further study or enables the graduate to successfully enter practice.

Animation in Tourism, History of Tourism, Ecommerce in Tourism, Ethics, Financial Mathematics, Gastronomy and Dining, Interpretation of Local Heritage, Municipal and Regional Policy, Convention Tourism, Spa and Wellness Management, Mathematics Seminar, Multimedia Production, Operations Research, Cultural Heritage Care, Planning and Regional Development of CR, Entrepreneurship of the Natural Person, Labor Law, Project Management in Tourism, Psychology of Culture, Psychology of Personality, Gender Equality-Introduction to Gender Studies, Self-Management and Human Resource Management, Simulation Management Games, Sports and Recreational Activities in Tourism, Strategic Hotel Management, Sustainable Forms of Tourism, Tourism Product Development, Introduction to Research Methodology, Introduction to Recreationology, Introduction to Accounting, Public Speaking, Use of the Internet in Tourism.

It is recommended to take two electives in the 4th semester and two electives in the 5th semester.

The following specialisations are offered to full-time and combined students, for which it is necessary to take the elective courses listed in brackets:

  • Tourism Business (Selfmanagement and Human Resource Management + Strategic Hotel Management)
  • Sustainable Forms of Tourism (Project Management in Tourism + Sustainable Forms of Tourism)
  • Leisure Management (Recreology - Theory of Sports and Recreational Activities + Sports and Recreational Activities)
  • Spa and Wellness (Self-management and Human Resource Management + Spa and Wellness Management)
  • Public Government in Tourism (Project Management in Tourism + Municipal and Regional Policy)
  • Cultural Tourism (Project Management in Tourism + Cultural Heritage Care)
  • Information systems in tourism (Multimedia production + Geographical and navigation systems + Use of the Internet in tourism)

Foreign Language Teaching

The student is required to take two foreign languages.

  • Foreign Language 1: choice of AJ, NJ
  • Foreign Language 2: choice of AJ, NJ, SP, RJ, FJ, IJ
  • If the student chooses NJ as 1st language, he/she must choose AJ as 2nd language

Additional languages may be enrolled as electives according to the student's interest and current offerings.

Subjects in a foreign language

Full-time students are obliged by the Study and Examination Regulations of the VŠPJ to study one of the courses in a foreign language. The Department of Tourism currently offers the following foreign language courses:

In English

Animation in Tourism, Ecommerce in Hospitality and Tourism, Geography of the Czech Republic, Geopsychology, History and Basic Facts of the Czech Republic, Intercultural Communication, International Marketing for Hospitality and Tourism, Planning and Regional Development of Tourism, Sales Foundations.

In German

Tourismus 1, Tourismus 2, Handelskorrespondenz, Wirtschaftsdeutsch.

Students can also choose from a wide range of foreign language courses sponsored by other departments of the VŠPJ. These courses are listed in the recommended curriculum:full-time form, combined form of study.
