Recognition of subjects

Recognition of Courses (extract of the most important points from the Study and Examination Regulations of the VŠPJ - valid from 30 September 2025)

Article 16
  • A student may apply for recognition of courses already taken, provided that these courses correspond to the courses in the recommended curriculum of the VŠPJ. If the application concerns recognition of courses taken at a higher vocational school or in the framework of lifelong learning, these courses must correspond to the courses in the recommended curriculum of the VŠPJ and must not be courses that are part of the profiling basis of the study programme.
  • The decision on the recognition of a course is made by the guarantor of the study programme.
  • According to paragraph 1, a course may be recognised if it is compulsory or optional in the course of study for which it is recognised. The study programme guarantor may also decide to recognise other subjects (e.g. subjects studied in a foreign language, which are optional subjects at the VŠPJ).
  • The state examination or any part of it cannot be recognised from previous or concurrent studies.
  • Courses recognized under paragraph 1 are evaluated with the word "recognized" and are not included in the student's average classification. The credit value of each recognised course shall be recognised at the same credit level as the course taught in the programme of study to which the candidate has been admitted.
  • The student must submit the application for course recognition in electronic form and must submit the required attachments in paper form to the Office of Student Services no later than the end of the first instructional week of the semester in which he/she plans to count the credits.

More detailed conditions for the recognition of study courses at the VŠPJ are contained in the Methodological Instruction on the Organization of Teaching in Accredited Study Programmes at the VŠPJ (MP No. 4/2022).

Selected passages from MP No. 4/2022 on the issue of course recognition

  1. Courses taken in previous studies may be recognized on the basis of an application submitted through IS and supported by all required documents.
  2. A student may only apply for recognition of courses that he/she has not successfully completed in his/her current studies or that are not registered in the timetable at the same time.
  3. The student must submit the request for course credit electronically no later than the end of the first instructional week of the semester in which he/she plans to count the credits.
  4. A student may request recognition of
    a. required and required elective courses taken during previous studies at the VŠPJ,
    b. required and required elective courses taken during previous studies, usually at another university,
    c. compulsory and compulsory elective study subjects that do not form part of the profiling basis of the study programme, taken during previous studies in an accredited educational programme at a higher vocational school or within the framework of lifelong learning (the subjects that form part of the profiling basis of the study programme are determined by the study programme guarantor),
    d. professional practice from previous studies at the VŠPJ,
    e. previous work experience,
    f. study subject of foreign language teaching.
  5. Attachments to the application for recognition of study courses taken during previous studies at the VŠPJ are the syllabus of the study course and the transcript of learning outcomes from previous studies at the VŠPJ. These attachments are automatically attached to the application by the IS based on the designation of the relevant course taken.
  6. Attachments to the application for recognition of study courses taken during previous studies outside the VŠPJ according to Section 6(4)(b) are the transcript of learning outcomes (original or certified copy) and the syllabus, which the student attaches electronically to the application in the IS. If the student has only a paper copy of the transcript of learning outcomes, he/she shall submit a scan of the transcript to the IS and deliver the original to the Study Department of the VŠPJ within 5 days of submitting the application. The course of study must be clearly marked on the transcript of results.
  7. Conditions for recognition of study courses:
    a. The courses of study have been successfully completed no later than five years prior to the date of application,
    b. The courses of study have more than a 75% correspondence in content with the course of study taught at the VŠPJ,
    c. If the courses of study have been completed by examination, then grades 1 and 2 (grading scale 1 to 4, where 4 is not met) or grades "A, B, C" (in the case of grading scale A to F, where F is not met) will be recognised.
