Project name:	Together in the CZ-AT border region – past, present and future
Grant title:	Austria–Czech Republic Small Projects Fund under the Interreg Austria–Czech Republic 2021–2027 programme

Abstract:	The project builds on the applicant’s previous activities, carried out with the partner Universität für weitere Bildung Krems (KPF-02-135 and KPF-02-220), as well as with both current partners (SPF-02-062). The innovation lies in the focus on selected topics and locations in the CZ-AT border region. Their selection is based on the diverse conditions along the entire border; specific issues are, or will be, addressed in a particular area or environment. In terms of research methods, the project involves a combination of desk research and hands-on activities such as round-table discussions, visits to selected institutions and a questionnaire survey. The project aims not only to capture the current situation, but also to examine developments to date and potential opportunities for deepening genuine cross-border ties, identifying common features and approaches at a societal level, as well as any differences or even obstacles in the process of connecting border regions and localities. In this way, it aims to help reduce peripheralisation and, conversely, to utilise cross-border cooperation as a catalyst for regional development.

Project name:	CZ-AT Town twinning – a means of mutual understanding and cross-border integration
Grant title:	Austria–Czech Republic Small Projects Fund under the Interreg Austria–Czech Republic 2021–2027 programme

Abstract:	In terms of content, the project builds on the applicant’s previous activities, carried out in partnership with the Universität für Weiterbildung Krems (KPF-02-135 and KPF-02-220). Town twinning is a significant component of both European integration at the political level and mutual understanding at the human (individual) level. These aspects converge and intertwine particularly in border regions/localities, drawing on the principle of neighbourliness. At the same time, it contributes to strengthening regional/local competitiveness in relation to core/central areas. The aim of the project is to ascertain the actual current situation in town and village twinning partnerships through desk research andfield surveys, specifically an analysis of cross-border projects, travel agencies’ offerings, the interconnections between economic entities and, in particular, cooperation between local authorities (municipalities and towns, including the organisations they manage/sectors). The findings will outline ways to improve the position of the Czech-Austrian border region within the framework of regional development in both countries.
